What does it mean to be strong in the Lord

Amid life’s challenges, we often seek a source of strength beyond our abilities.

What does it mean to be strong in the Lord? This question touches the hearts of many who face difficult times.

Our instinct is to rely on ourselves—our skills, determination, and willpower. But true spiritual strength isn’t about personal power.

It’s about finding hope and courage in a connection that goes deeper than our understanding.

Being strong in the Lord invites us to look beyond our limitations and discover peace and resilience that come from something greater than ourselves.

It’s a journey of trust, surrender, and discovering an inner strength that can carry us through life’s storms.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE STRONG IN THE LORD?

what does it mean to be strong in the Lord

We will begin this bible sermon with Ephesians 6 vs 10 (KJV): Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

To be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might means to live in the realities of our identity or all that is ours in Christ.

In all my writings, I have explained several times that it doesn’t end at salvation. Everyone who gets saved is expected to grow in the Lord and mature in the spirit.

Maturity will make you responsible in the house of the Lord. Your Christian character or conduct is a result of how mature you are.

Your maturity level in Christ determines your response or reactions amid challenging times.

The knowledge of who you are, what you have in Christ and all that Christ can do through you depends on your Christian maturity.

The more we know of our inheritance in Christ and live in the realities of our identity, the more mature we are.

Maturity is in knowledge not in how many years you have been in Church. This knowledge is not just a mere acquisition of facts but the knowledge that has developed into a mindset or character that makes you responsible in the body of Christ.

Ignorance of who you are in Christ will make you weak in the Lord.

Sometimes things can become so difficult that it takes only the strong or those who know who they are in Christ to stand strong.

As believers, this is not the time to give up but rather the time to show how solid our foundation is in the Lord.

Isaiah 40 vs 27 – 31 (CEV) says:

Verse 27: You people of Israel, say, “God pays no attention to us! He doesn’t care if we are treated unjustly. “But how can you say that?
Verse 28: Don’t you know? Haven’t you heard? The LORD is the Eternal God, Creator of the earth. He never gets weary or tired; his wisdom cannot be measured.
Verse 29: The LORD gives strength to those who are weary.
Verse 30: Even young people get tired, then stumble and fall.
Verse 31: But those who trust the LORD will find new strength. They will be strong like eagles soaring upward on wings; they will walk and run without getting tired.

Our call as believers is without challenges. We have persecutions to face.

We have natural challenges to face. We have the world or our desires to control. We have circumstances to exercise authority over and many more but 1 John 5 vs 4 – 5(TPT) says:

Verse 4: You see, every child of God overcomes the World, for our faith is the victorious power that triumphs over the world.
Verse 5: So, who are the world conquerors, defeating its power? Those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

Read carefully verse 4 “Every child of God overcomes the World” including you, you don’t need a special anointing, you don’t need to be a Pastor, you are in God’s family, and you have overcome the World! Glory!!

Therefore, let us exercise our spiritual muscles through knowledge and prayer to remain strong and unmovable in challenging times.

Don’t wait till challenges come before committing yourself to study and prayer. We must grow daily by feeding on the word.

We must develop ourselves and be ready all the time. Challenges will surely come therefore be strong in the Lord.

Be strong in all that we have in Christ. Be strong in who we are in Christ. Be strong in what Christ can do through you. Remain strong and unmovable. Stand strong all the time.

But how do you become strong in the Lord and the power of his might? We can become strong by spending time with the word and prayer.

The more time we spend with the word and prayer the stronger we become to face the challenges of life victoriously.

CONCLUSION

In the world, we will face tribulation, but Jesus said, “Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

Apostle Paul and John remind us that we are overcomers who triumph always (1 John 5:4-5).

These words are our anchor, giving us strength to live each day knowing God is with us. We cannot be abandoned, for it is never in God’s nature to forsake His children (Hebrews 13:5).

As you grow in knowledge of your identity in Christ, may you draw supernatural strength to emerge victorious against all challenges.

Remember, in the Lord, you are more than a conqueror.

Stay Blessed.
