Every religion and country has a unique culture shaping how its adherents live, think, and behave.
This culture encompasses cuisine, attire, and language for nations. Today, we’ll explore a specific cultural subset: the Believers’ Culture.
In this context, “Believers” refers to individuals who have accepted Jesus Christ as their saviour and embraced His teachings.
As followers of Christ, we must consider: Are there specific attitudes or ways of life expected from us?
How do we gain the right knowledge about our lifestyle, given that we now belong to the kingdom of light and not darkness?
God’s way of thinking and doing things often differs from worldly practices.
Although we live in the world, the higher spiritual realm that now influences us cannot be subordinated to mere earthly traditions.
This raises an important question: How do we navigate this dichotomy?
As we carefully examine this faith-based way of life, we’ll begin with the fundamental doctrine for every believer and how it relates to the Christian culture and Traditions.
Our exploration of this topic stems from a place of love, with the ultimate goal of seeing Jesus Christ glorified in our lives.
By understanding and embracing this Christ-centered lifestyle, we can better reflect His light in the world around us.
THE FUNDAMENTAL KEY DOCTRINE OF THE BELIEVER
As a growing believer, I had questions and I still do, am glad that am growing in the Knowledge of the Word of God daily.
Have you ever wanted to live an effective Christian life not just head knowledge? I too have always asked this question and am happy to share the answer with you.

You see, as a believer, a correct and proper interpretation of the bible is fundamental to how effective our lives are.
Now, I highly recommend you read that again because a wrong scriptural interpretation or false doctrine will cut you off from receiving from the Giving God and all the wealth that redemption has provided.
Philemon 1 vs 6 says: That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. (KJV)
Question: How does our faith become effectual?
Answer: By acknowledging every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.
Therefore, you (the believer) are effective to the degree that you acknowledge every good thing which is in him in Christ.
That’s why every believer needs to give premium to the teaching and understanding of the scriptures and this should not be belittled or relegated to the background.
We also take examples from the Life of Christ and Paul admonishing Timothy:
In Luke 2:41-49, We saw Jesus in the temple with the teachers of the law, at the age of 12 years.
Please, do not say in your heart that your kids are too young. Like I would always say, if they can watch a movie or animation series for 2 hours, they can also read the scriptures with your guidance.
So, at a young age, Jesus was found sitting among teachers and renowned scholars, listening and asking questions.
This means He was making inquiries to know or to learn, and all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.
We can therefore look at the fact that Jesus, our Lord as a young boy had a devoted culture of reading and learning the scriptures and asking questions to learn.
What was the result?
The answer is in Luke 2 vs 40 – “And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him”.
Luke 2 vs 50 says: And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
2 Timothy 3:15-16 says: “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”.
This means that when Timothy received salvation, the scriptures remained the only text to make him wise unto salvation.
Note the fact that Paul acknowledged that Timothy knew the Holy Scriptures from a child. The same culture is seen in our Lord Jesus Christ.
In the same book of Luke 4 vs 16 – 22, we also see that Jesus had a culture or custom of going to the synagogue to read the scriptures which is from Genesis to Malachi (of course you know at that time, the New Testament hasn’t been written).
Therefore, we can say that the Believers Culture has to do with reading the scriptures and availing themselves to be taught the scriptures.
We cannot grow spiritually and fulfill Christ’s ministry without reading and being taught the scriptures.
There can never be true growth and effectiveness in ministry work outside of reading and being taught the scriptures.
The knowledge of the scriptures makes us wise in salvation which is the subject of the scriptures.
We receive and grow in wisdom by reading the scriptures. We are informed of our identity and all that is in us in Christ by reading the scriptures.
For further study, kindly read my commentary on I Timothy 4 vs 13.
Finally, say this Prayer with me: I make reading the scriptures my culture and continually give myself to reading and listening to the scriptures.
Amen! Glory to God in the highest.
