Finding Peace in God

Imagine standing on a mountaintop, surrounded by mist, searching for a path. Suddenly, the fog lifts, revealing a clear trail before you. This is the power of finding peace in God.

Now that you have received the Life of God, an often-overlooked aspect of our relationship with Him is the accurate and precise knowledge of His Word.

Some may dismiss its importance, but our lives are shaped by what we hear and believe. Our faith and ability to receive from the Father are determined by what we absorb.

Our minds are a battleground where the enemy hurls his lies, attempting to rob us of the peace we have with God.

But we know that the work of Salvation is complete and If we doubt our eternal Life, then we are of all men most miserable.

The Gospel’s beauty lies in its simplicity: Jesus plus nothing equals everything. In this truth, we find our peace, our direction, and our strength to navigate life’s challenges.

DEALING WITH MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT GOD

If there is one thing that can quickly hinder a believer’s faith or cause unbelievers not to believe in the Gospel, it is rumors or misconceptions about the Character of God.

For example, many believers think that it was God who inflicted Job and killed his Children to test him.

My question is this: How come God did all of this and yet in James we are told that there is no evil or darkness in God and he doesn’t test anyone with evil? James 1 vs 13 – 14.

Who Should We Believe? Job or James? To learn more about this dilemma, kindly read: Does God give and take away?

You see, when I was growing up, I would pray every night before I sleep, filled with fear that if by chance Jesus comes, I want to be in Heaven with him.

finding peace in God

I never knew Heaven was my reality as a new creation, I thought I had to cross all my t’s and dot my I’s. See the scriptures below that talk about our Citizenship in Heaven:

My Sleep wasn’t sound because my heart was awake throughout the night. There was no peace in my heart regarding the eternal salvation I had received. Hebrews 5 vs 9.

But today, the story is different. What changed? I began to see in God’s word that the sacrifice of Christ is finished and complete, all my works are nothing.

God is ever pleased with me not because I fast, pray, or do good but because of Christ.

So therefore, the way of finding peace in God is to settle your mind on this truth: what Jesus has done for us in Salvation is ours, it is our present reality we don’t work to get and keep them.

Philippians 3:20 – “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Ephesians 2:19 – “Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household.”

Colossians 1:13-14 – “For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

Ephesians 2:6 – “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.”

Hebrews 12:22-23 – “But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven.”

2 Corinthians 5:1 – “For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.”

1 Peter 2:11 – “Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul.”

RECEIVING GOD’S FORGIVENESS

Another trap of the enemy that has held many believers is sin consciousness and they think that they are righteous till the next time they sin but is this true?

This has made them lose peace in the goodness of God. Our sins have been remitted not pardoned.

Remission means an eternal release from sin not temporary.

It also means sin cannot stand between you and God any more, instead what stands between you and God is Christ the Mediator.

Remission means we have received eternal forgiveness. Scriptures say in whom we have forgiveness, who has the forgiveness? It is not me or you but God. Acts 13 vs 38, Acts 26 vs 18, Ephesians 1 vs 7, and Colossians 1 vs 14.

God himself provided the sacrifice for sin, and the demands of Justice have been met, this truth gladdens our hearts and we find peace knowing that we are forgiven and God isn’t mad or angry with us anymore and will never be.

Romans 5:1 – “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Ephesians 2:14-17 – “For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility… He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.”

Colossians 1:19-20 – “For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.”

John 16:33 – “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Romans 15:13 – “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

2 Corinthians 5:18-19 – “All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them.”

BENEFITS OF THE PEACE OF GOD

First, God is a God of Peace not confusion, because we already have his Life, we have his Peace, this is how we obtain the Peace of God, for as he is, so are we!

One of the benefits of the peace of God is to quiet our minds and hearts when we are troubled, Philippians 4 vs 6 says; Be careful for nothing; but in everything by Prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Philippians 4:7 – “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Secondly, as Believers the peace of God that we have serves as umpire or ruler in our hearts – Colossians 3:15 – “Let the peace of God rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”

Lastly, the knowledge that we have the peace of God and he is our peace gives us confidence that we have peace at all times and in every way under every circumstance –

2 Thessalonians 3:16 – “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.”

Blessings, Saints!
